VLV Releases Briefing on forthcoming BBC Charter Renewal

VLV has released a briefing to set out its position on the forthcoming renewal of the BBC’s Royal Charter, at a critical moment for public service broadcasting in the UK.

The briefing explains why the BBC’s unique combination of public ownership, public funding, a public remit and universal free access remains vital to the nation’s democratic, cultural and civic life, particularly as global streaming platforms reshape viewing habits and undermine provision in key public service genres. It examines the major challenges now facing the BBC including; political interference, declining funding and weaknesses in accountability and regulation, and sets out VLV’s proposals for reform to secure the BBC’s independence, sustainability and public value for the decades ahead.
