The VLV held its 41st Spring Conference, on Wednesday 24th April at the Geological Society in Piccadilly, central London. You can view the full programme here.
We celebrated all that Public Service Broadcasting provides for audiences in the annual VLV Awards for Excellence, which were hosted by broadcaster Clive Myrie. Our focus during the conference was on how British broadcasting can be supported to ensure it keeps delivering benefits for citizens in the UK.

The second session of the day was with Kevin Lygo, Managing Director, Media and Entertainment, at ITV, who leads the commissioning of all ITV’s content. This session was chaired by Romilly Weeks, ITV News Political Correspondent and Presenter.

Session 3 – Radio vs Podcasting
Our first afternoon conference session we explored the impact podcasting is having on live radio audiences in a session chaired by broadcaster Roger Bolton. The speakers on our expert panel were David Lloyd, co-founder of Boom Radio, Jonathan Wall, Director of BBC Sounds, Aradhna Tayal Leach, Managing Director of the Radio Academy, and Matt Deegan, founder of Folder Media.

Session 4 – How to fund Public Service Broadcasting?
Our final session of the day, chaired by former VLV President and Chair of Ofcom, Dame Colette Bowe DBE, looked at what public service content should include and how it should be funded. Our speakers were the Chief Executive of MG Alba, the Gaelic media service, Donald Campbell, Sarah Clarke, Chief Operating Officer of ITV’s Media and Entertainment Division, Aaqil Ahmed, former Head of Religion and Ethics at both Channel 4 and the BBC and Trustee of The Sandford St Martin Trust, and Jackie Edwards, former head of the Young Audiences Content Fund which supported the production of UK children’s content.
